Ayodeji Otuyelu is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and activist from Nigeria. He advocates through poetry and film for marginalized groups. After starring in the HBO documentary “Legends of the Underground '’ which explores the underground scene of LGBT community in Nigeria. His first film “Unsaid,” an experimental poetry film that was adapted from his book “Words in my Head” explores homosexual relationship in Nigeria, molestation in boys, feminism and black celebration. Unsaid screened in numerous film festivals and won awards like Best Experimental: Open World Toronto Film Festival, finalist for Best Short LGBTQ Filmmaker: Next Generation indie Film Awards etc. His second short experimental “The Outlandish” celebrates the freedom of Trans women of color paying attention to the sadness and transphobia that comes with it. He has a continued commitment to writing unfiltered stories that celebrates, uplifts LGBTQ+ through his poetry and film. He is currently working on a film that celebrate the joy of a first time romance for young gay adults.
